Welcome to the Jungle, released on June 26, boasting an ensemble cast of 34 actors is reportedly inspired by the 2008 satirical action-comedy Tropic Thunder, the film is led by Akshay Kumar—an actor long regarded as one of Bollywood's biggest comedy stars. Naturally, expectations were high for a full-blown laugh riot.
However, much like many big-ticket releases today, the film has opened to mixed reviews. While some audiences have embraced its over-the-top humour, others have labelled it "peak brain rot," with several comparing its absurdity to Farah Khan's Tees Maar Khan.
One of the film's biggest strengths is its self-aware humour. It leans heavily into nostalgia, with several actors referencing their own iconic films and on-screen personas. Veteran performers Farida Jalal and Kiran Kumar have emerged as audience favourites, with many viewers saying their presence adds warmth and charm, often stealing the spotlight.
That said, the film hasn't escaped criticism. Viewers have pointed out inconsistent VFX and felt the runtime was unnecessarily long, arguing that tighter editing could have made the comedy land better. In the end, Welcome to the Jungle is a loud, nostalgia-fuelled entertainer that has audiences either thoroughly enjoying the madness or wishing it had trimmed the excess.
