Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna's Cocktail 2 has become one of the most talked-about Bollywood films even before its release. The film recently found itself at the center of speculation after rumours suggested that it would feature a lesbian romance between Kriti and Rashmika's characters.
At the trailer launch event, Kriti Sanon addressed the rumours and dismissed the speculation with a light-hearted response. She pointed out that people often find it difficult to accept that two women can simply share a close friendship. Kriti remarked that when two men share a strong bond, it is often called a "bromance," but when two women are involved, people immediately start creating different narratives.
The film's producer Dinesh Vijan and director Homi Adajania also clarified that Cocktail 2 is not a lesbian love story. According to them, the film revolves around modern relationships, emotional complexities, and a love triangle rather than the storyline being speculated about online.
Adding a humorous twist to the discussion, Kriti and Rashmika jokingly blamed Shahid Kapoor for the rumours. The actors laughed off the speculation during the event, suggesting that Shahid's presence in the film and the mystery surrounding the story may have encouraged fans to come up with their own theories.
The trailer indicates that Cocktail 2 is a relationship drama packed with romance, friendship, heartbreak, and emotional conflicts. Shahid Kapoor appears to be caught between the characters played by Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, setting the stage for a complicated love triangle.
Considered a spiritual successor to the 2012 hit Cocktail, the new film introduces a fresh cast while retaining the themes of friendship, love, and modern relationships that made the original a fan favourite. With the rumours now put to rest, audiences can look forward to a romantic drama rather than the storyline that social media had imagined.
Cocktail 2 is scheduled to hit theatres on June 19, 2026.
